    What is this new craze? What’s all the hype about?!

    Haven’t you heard? Self-love is the new black. It’s THE thing to do for you in 2017.

    Self-love is about you, and for you - ONLY you. By working on you, focusing on you and taking responsibility for yourself – you are making way for others to do the same. To treat you with the respect you deserve, but also to inspire them to take a look at themselves and raise their level of self-love too.

    Just to clarify, we’re not talking about bubble baths, pedicures, and cucumber masks. It turns out there is so much more to self-love than just pampering ourselves.

    But, is it really what it sounds like?  Is it that obvious?  Yes, it is.

    As women we play so many different roles: wife, partner, mum, employer/employee, friend, daughter, sibling and the list goes on.  As a woman, how many times have you put yourself last? I’m a single mum so I get double the responsibility and even less time to myself than most. I found myself taking care of everyone else, to the point of exhaustion. Depleted of energy and resources, and feeling completely drained.  Sadly this was a daily occurrence, and over time I became no use to anyone.

    Early this year, I had that ‘a-ha’ moment, and knew that I simply had to make myself a priority as well.

    We chase other things, start businesses (I’ve started two this year), and juggle multiple side projects in order to avoid the problems we really should be dealing with (but don’t want to). The ones that we know, really are  the most important.

    Here are three ways to take care of yourself, no matter how little time you have: 

    1. Do one thing that makes you happy every single day. Go to the gym. Read a few pages of that book you’ve been meaning to start. Write in a journal. Go for long walks alone. Go window shopping. Take a long hot bath. If you’re creative then create something new.  

     

    1. Grow yourself. Know what your vision is for your life. The highest vision you can have of yourself. Be clear on your purpose. Be clear on your goals. Develop your own vision and goals, know what you want to do and why. Remember that this is YOUR life  not anyone else’s.

     

     You can’t give what you don’t have.

     It’s far easier to spread love, enthusiasm, and be an inspiration to others when you’re full of it yourself. So take the time for you.

     Self-love isn’t selfish, it’s essential. Self-love is the new black.
